The SmartBox/2 was designed to meet the unique needs of the die casting industry and to take advantage of new electronics technology.  Paring the SmartBox/2 with the TymacHMI plant wide monitoring system reduces the cost of monitoring each die casting machine.  The TymacHMI system allows user supplied PCs to be used as workstations so the need for a keypad and display at each SmartBox/2 is eliminated reducing the size, power consumption and cost of the SmartBox/2. 

The Tymac SmartBox/2 can monitor over 100 process parameters comparing them to user defined limits to immediately signal out-of-tolerance conditions that can lead to undetected scrap in the die casting process.

The SmartBox/2 can connect to 4 pressure / vacuum transducers, 4 Thermocouples and a variety of position / velocity transducers.  Internally, the SmartBox/2 calculates the effective metal pressure on the tip and includes this along with the other pressures / vacuums on the shot profile display.

In the basic configuration the SmartBox/2 will monitor 28 parameters including both Head and Rod side pressures, two temperatures, velocity and distances for both slow and fast shot, and several other critical process parameters including Impact Pressure, Intensified Pressure, Stoke Length, Fill Time, Intensifier Delay, Gate Velocity and Injection Position.  By simply connecting additional transducers, the SmartBox/2 will monitor additional parameters without the need for a system upgrade.

4 Limit switch outputs may be used to trigger fast shot, intensification or squeeze pins.  Alarm / Warning outputs can be used to automatically reject parts or illuminate an alarm light.

The custom design of the SmartBox/2 gives it some unique features not found in other "basic" process monitors, such as automatic failed shot diagnostic profiles.  The SmartBox/2 application-specific design also gives it tremendous speed. Machines with cycles as fast as one second are no problem for the SmartBox/2.  Made to survive in the tough plant environment, with industrial components, the SmartBox/2 advanced technology means no moving parts to wear out or overheat.

At 6.25” x 3.5” x 2.25” the SmartBox/2 is about 1/40 the size of previous generation monitoring systems and has no moving parts.  There is no regular maintenance required.  The small size and DIN rail mount allows the SmartBox/2 to be installed within an existing PLC control panel which greatly reduces the cost of installation in both time and money.

A complete selection of transducers and interface cables are available for use with the SmartBox/2 system.  In addition, many existing OEM position sensors are also compatible.
